Before I could begin preparing to deliver the professional development training, I first had to meet with my practicum supervisor, Barbara Burchard. We discussed the details of my plan and elements in which I may need assistance. We agreed on a time for the training to take place. We also discussed scheduling a day in which I could spend some time with Mrs. Burchard in a shadowing experience. This meeting took approximately 1 hour.

In order to prepare to deliver the professional development training, I needed to begin putting together a newsletter and thinking about the elements that would need to be included. I chose to use Microsoft Word as the tool to create the newsletter because many of the teachers are familiar with it and use it often. As I was building a prototype for my presentation, I also researched different aspects of the newsletter to make sure I was adequately prepared to deliver the material and answer questions that may arise during the training. I also practiced making several different newsletters. This process took approximately 12 hours to complete.

The next step in preparing to lead the training was putting together a slide show presentation to go along with the training. I chose to use Microsoft PowerPoint as a tool to build my slide show. Along with making a presentation, I included notes from which I can use during the training to keep myself on track. I also created a handout for the teachers to use as we go through the training. They will have step-by-step directions in their hands as well as verbal directions from me. Along with the slide show, I also researched and created an evaluation form for the teachers to complete after the training. This portion took approximately 10 hours to complete.

All of these steps allowed me to focus on the details of the presentation. I had to think about the directions I would give and how each part of creating a newsletter would be presented. I wanted to make sure the directions were clear and concise. Thinking through each part allowed me the opportunity to focus on the material that I want to present. I also wanted the presentation to be aesthetically pleasing, so I included some design elements that would be included in the training. Thinking through the process helped me to prepare a thorough presentation.
